Books books books

I FINALLY finished Dracula today. It was awesome! It took me a while to get through, but I really really liked it. There wasn’t a huge, crazy fight with Dracula at the end, like you see in most of the vampire movies. Instead, I feel like Stoker reached the last chapter and still hadn’t finished, so he said, “This is the last chapter no matter what, I have to finish everything now”…So he did. BUT!! It worked! The last lines of the book, spoken by Van Helsing, brought the whole book home for me:

“We want no proofs. We ask none to believe us! This boy will some day know what a brave and gallant woman his mother is. Already he knows her sweetness and loving care. Later on he will understand how some men so loved her, that they did dare much for her sake.”

Yeah, that’s just awesome.

Now that that masterpiece is out of the way, I’m thinking I need something a little easier to read. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO let The Hunger Games begin!!

The Elder Scrolls

Over the past week I’ve become addicted to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It’s literally one of the greatest games I’ve played in a while…And it came out 5 years ago! It’s been sitting around my house for a while now and I only just put it in. Now I can’t stop. It’s bad, I literally go to bed thinking about it and then dream about it. And, strangely enough, I wouldn’t mind actually living in the world of the game. Sad, right?

Needless to say, I. LOVE. IT. THEN!! I was going through my room and found one of my Game Informer magazines from a few months ago. 10 pages dedicated to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim!

I may have jizzed when I read through it. The game already looks brilliant and it doesn’t come out until November! There’s stuff about talking to dragons and apparently Bethesda created an entire language for them. We’re talking an entire 30 character alphabet! I literally cannot wait until November…my life is going to be consumed.

AWESOME!!

“Best friend: that’s a commitment.

Girlfriend: that’s like a bad flu; comes out of your system after a couple of weeks in bed.”

Another reason why Barney is the man.

Okay, so this was quite easily one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while. Don’t get me wrong, Thor was great!! But it was a different kind of movie, so it’s hard to compare. Anyways, Kristen Wiig is easily one of my favorite actresses/comediennes, however that beautiful woman all the way on the left may have stolen the show. I laughed at pretty much everything she (Melissa McCarthy) said…which is also true of Kristen Wiig, but I expected it, so it’s different I guess. But yeah, if you didn’t plan on seeing it, you totally should; it was completely worth the $10 I didn’t have to pay to get in!

SUMMER!

So my summer break began yesterday and today I spent a few hours preparing for the literary adventures I will embark on over vacation. Today I picked up copies of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, and Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness (Brit. Lit. clearly had an effect on me…). Along with these three, I intend on reading Joseph Heller’s Catch-22 and rereading The Chronicles of Narnia and the Harry Potter series. I also still have yet to finish Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged, but we’ll see how that goes…

Either way it’s looking to be a wonderful summer for reading!!
